A group of 103 Nigerians who were deported from Turkey arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday evening, July 28, 2024.

The deportees landed at the pilgrims’ wing of the airport at 6:45 p.m. on a Southwind Airlines flight with registration number TC-GRB.

The deportees were received by a team of government officials from various agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the military.

According to the deportees, they were unfairly treated and detained for over 11 months in Turkey before being deported.

They alleged that they were subjected to inhumane conditions and had their valuables seized by Turkish authorities.

The deportees are calling on the Nigerian government to intervene and recover their seized valuables.

They also urged the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deportation and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As of the time of writing this report, the reason for their deportation is not clear.

However, sources suggest that the deportees may have been arrested and detained in Turkey for alleged immigration violations.

The Nigerian government has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

The deportation of the 103 Nigerians from Turkey is the latest in a series of incidents involving the deportation of Nigerian citizens from various countries around the world.

In recent months, there have been reports of Nigerians being deported from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United States, among others.
