‘25% not Necessary in FCT’, and other Key Rulings of the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has finally put to rest the uncertainties surrounding the 2023 Presidential election, as it dismissed the appeals filed by the People’s Democratic Party and the Labour Party, to uphold the election victory of President Bola Tinubu.

Here are some of the key rulings handed down by the Supreme Court:

1. It is not necessary for a candidate to poll 25% of the votes of the Federal Capital Territory before he can be declared election winner.
2. The failure of INEC to transmit election results on the Viewing Portal is not enough ground for the cancellation/nullification of the election.
3. The Court refused to admit fresh evidence filed by the People’s Democratic Party on President Tinubu’s alleged fake university certificate.
