Alvaro Morata, a former Chelsea and Real Madrid striker, and his wife Alice Campello have separated after seven years of marriage.
Confirmation of their divorce comes just a fortnight after the couple was spotted kissing on a beach during a family vacation in Sardinia.
Campello was also spotted alongside her husband as he led Spain to victory in the Euro 2024 final on July 14.
Morata, who joined Milan after two seasons at Atletico Madrid, was recently pictured sans his wedding ring while signing shirts for Milan fans.
On Monday, Morata revealed their split in an Instagram post that read:Â âAfter some time of reflection, Alice and I have made the decision to part ways. A WONDERFUL and RESPECTFUL reciprocal relationship where we have loved and helped each other a lot.
âThey have been wonderful years and the result of them is our four children, who are undoubtedly the best thing we have ever done.
âIt is a painful decision so we ask for respect and empathy. Do not invent stories for a minute of prominence because I repeat: there has never been any lack of respect, only many continuous misunderstandings that little by little wear things down.
âAlice will always have a special place in my heart and everything we have experienced together has been incredible and a great learningâ.
Campello, an Italian influencer, has now removed her husbandâs name from all of her social network accounts.
She changed her name online from âAlice Campello Morataâ to just âAlice Campelloâ.
And, on social media, Campello wrote:Â âAlvaro and I have decided to separate, and it is the most difficult decision we have ever made in our lives. I want to make it clear, as he has, that there have been no third parties or any kind of disrespect from either of us.
âI can only say that in these 8 years, I have had a person by my side who has done nothing but prioritise me, take care of me, and respect me, and for that reason, I cannot allow any kind of false speculation and the decision to announce it âso soonâ.
âI donât want you to think that anything you have seen in the Instagram photos weâve been posting is a lie. We couldnât have loved each other more, and we continue to do so, but there comes a time when many misunderstandings accumulate, are poorly managed, and things gradually deteriorate and explode.
âWe have always promised each other to respect everything we have lived through, to never reach the point of hurting each other or being toxic, and to end things before that happens, and that is what weâve done.
âI just want to thank Alvaro for everything he has done for me, for how he has taken care of me, for being the father and husband he has been, and to wish him the best ALWAYS.â
Morata and Campello married in June 2017, shortly before he joined Chelsea from Real Madrid.
They have three sons, including twins, and a daughter.
