The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a warning that it will embark on a nationwide strike if its President, Joe Ajaero, is detained by the Nigeria Police.
This warning was issued following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the NLC headquarters on Tuesday morning.
The meeting was convened to address the police’s invitation to Ajaero regarding allegations of terrorism financing.
The NEC resolved that Ajaero should respond to the police invitation, but requested an extension of time for his appearance through their legal adviser.
Deputy President Ado Kabiru Sani urged workers nationwide to remain vigilant for further instructions in the event of Ajaero’s detention.
He stated, “As a responsible labor organization, we will cooperate with the police by honoring their invitation. However, if our President is arrested, we will direct all workers to cease work immediately. We will await further directives from our leadership.”
