Emmy 2024: Japanese Drama ‘Shogun’ Dominates with 18 Awards, Including Outstanding Drama Series

At the 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15, 2024, FX’s epic drama series Shogun made history by sweeping 18 awards, including the highly coveted Outstanding Drama Series.

This monumental achievement sets a new record in the prestigious event’s history, solidifying Shogun as one of the most celebrated shows of all time.

Set in the enthralling world of 17th-century Japan, Shogun faced stiff competition from several notable nominees.

The series received 25 nominations and began its historic sweep at the Creative Arts Emmys, where it won an astounding 14 awards.

On the Primetime Emmy stage, the show added four more trophies, including acting honors for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai.

Co-creator Justin Marks, in his emotional acceptance speech, expressed heartfelt gratitude: “Thank you for this incredible honor. We are so grateful,” Marks said, his voice filled with emotion.

Shogun’s dominance at the 2024 Emmys marks a defining moment in television history.
