AS Roma Sacks Daniele De Rossi Amid Poor Start to Season

AS Roma has unexpectedly terminated the contract of head coach Daniele De Rossi, citing the team’s best interests.

De Rossi’s departure comes despite extending his contract until 2027 in June, following a promising six-month stint as caretaker.

The former midfielder took over in January 2024, replacing José Mourinho, and managed 26 games with 13 wins and six defeats.

Roma’s statement read: “The club’s decision is made to get back on the desired path as soon as possible, considering the season’s early stages.”

De Rossi led Roma to sixth in Serie A last season and the Europa League semifinals, but a poor start to this season (three points from four games, two goals scored) sealed his fate.

The club thanked De Rossi for his passion and dedication, acknowledging his permanent place in Roma’s history.

Roma will announce De Rossi’s replacement soon.
