Barcelona Suffers 2-1 Defeat Against Monaco in their First UCL Game

FC Barcelona’s Champions League campaign began with a frustrating 2-1 loss to Monaco, the same team that won the Joan Gamper Trophy just weeks ago.

The match took a turn for the worse when Eric García received a red card after just 10 minutes, making Barça’s task an uphill battle.

Despite adversity, Barça fought valiantly. Lamine Yamal made history with his first Champions League goal, becoming the second-youngest goalscorer in the competition. Ansu Fati returned after 389 days, and Sergi Domínguez and Gerard Martín made their UCL debuts.

However, Monaco capitalized on Ter Stegen’s error and Eric García’s red card. Maghnes Akliouche scored easily, and despite Lamine’s equalizer, George Ilenikhena sealed the win for Monaco.

Barça faces Young Boys on October 1 in their next Champions League fixture, but first, they must navigate three Liga matches, starting with Villarreal on Sunday.
