British Council hikes fee of IELTS to 107,500 Naira

Nigerian students seeking to write the International English Language Testing System Examinations (IELTS) will now pay the sum of N107,500 for the exams, starting from September 2023.

The British Council who are the organizers of the assessment test, in a statement said the hike in the fee from the previous rate of N90,000 was necessary to sustain the high quality of standards for the “testing experience.”

The statement reads partly:

“Dear valued test taker, we would like to inform you that effective from 01 September 2023, there will be a price increase for IELTS tests offered by the British Council.

“The new prices will be NGN 107,500 for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, NGN 116,000 for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), and NGN 104,000 for Life Skills. The new prices are necessary to sustain the high quality of standards for your testing experience.

“Thank you for choosing the British Council.”

The IELTS is an assessment test mandatory for migrants in most countries of the world going to work or study in the United Kingdom.

The hike in the price of IELTS is set to affect many Nigerians, as the UK remains one of the destinations of choice for Nigerians seeking better learning and work opportunities. As of September 2021, only two other countries, China and India, were sending more students to the UK than Nigeria.
