Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s Media Office Criticizes EFCC’s Actions

The media office of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of conducting a politically motivated “hatchet job” against him.

The criticism follows the EFCC’s recent declaration of Bello as wanted, which generated significant media attention. Bello voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters but was released without charges.

Bello’s team questions the EFCC’s intentions, suggesting personal agendas and bias rather than a genuine fight against corruption.

They urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, emphasizing the need for an equitable and inclusive approach to combating corruption.

The EFCC is prosecuting Bello on 19 counts of money laundering and breach of trust involving approximately N80.2 billion, alongside his nephew Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu.

The situation highlights concerns about selective prosecution and political interference in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
