Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has strongly denied accusations of misappropriating public funds during his tenure. He expressed willingness to take an oath on the Quran to affirm his innocence.

El-Rufai stated that his entry into politics was driven solely by a desire to serve the public, not for personal financial gain. He emphasized that he was content with his possessions before becoming governor.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly had previously indicted El-Rufai’s administration for allegedly misappropriating over N423 billion. However, El-Rufai and his allies reject these allegations, labeling them a politically motivated witch hunt.

El-Rufai challenged other former governors and current leaders to join him in swearing on the Quran, affirming they never misappropriated public funds. He reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Kaduna State.

“I didn’t enter politics to steal or take people’s money,” El-Rufai said. “I’m ready to swear on the Quran whenever other leaders do the same.”

El-Rufai expressed frustration that his allies are being targeted by anti-graft agencies, intending to tarnish their names. He trusts in God’s judgment, having prayed for guidance.

The denial comes amidst ongoing controversy surrounding the allegations. Reactions to El-Rufai’s statement have been mixed, with some questioning his sincerity and others supporting his call for accountability.
