Israel Bars UN Chief Antonio Guterres from Entering Country Amid Escalating Tensions

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced a ban on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres from entering Israel, citing his failure to unequivocally condemn Iran’s missile attack.

Katz labeled Guterres “undesirable” after the UN chief’s response to the escalating Middle East conflict, calling for a ceasefire without explicitly condemning Iran.

Iran’s attacks were retaliation for Israel’s airstrikes killing top figures, including Hassan Nasrallah, Ismail Haniyeh, and Abbas Nilforoushan.

Katz accused Guterres of supporting terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, stating, “Israel will protect its citizens and maintain national honor with or without Antonio Guterres.”

This move escalates tensions between Israel and the UN, following previous bans on UN officials, including Francesca Albanese and the UN humanitarian office chief.

The legality of Katz’s ban is uncertain, as authority typically rests with the interior minister.

The situation heightens concerns about regional stability and diplomatic relations between Israel, the UN, and Middle Eastern nations.
