The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly condemned the recent increase in petrol pump prices, warning it will exacerbate poverty and economic hardship.

In a statement, NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized the hike’s devastating impact: “It will further deepen poverty, reduce production capacities, and lead to job losses with multidimensional negative effects.”

Ajaero urged the government to immediately reverse the rate hike, citing past increases that yielded no positive results, only widespread poverty.

The NLC demands transparency, calling on the government to clearly articulate its vision and goals for Nigeria’s future.

The petrol price hike, which saw prices jump to ₦998 per liter in Lagos and ₦1050 nationwide, has sparked widespread criticism.

The NLC joins the growing chorus opposing the hike and its detrimental effects on Nigerian citizens.
