Nigeria Reviews University Admission Age Limit

Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, announced the Federal Government’s plan to reconsider the 18-year age limit for university admissions at the 68th National Council on Education meeting in Abuja.

Mamman advocated for flexible admissions for exceptionally talented students, recognizing their unique potential. Special provisions will be made for their admission into tertiary institutions.

The minister clarified that the age limit only applies to university admissions, not O’level examinations. Guidelines will be established for exceptionally intelligent learners.

The government also aims to ensure students acquire essential skills from a basic education level, and review the curriculum to align with the digital age, focusing on innovation, digital technology integration, and entrepreneurship skills development.

This move seeks to enhance Nigeria’s education sector and prepare students for the digital age.
