The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has issued a statement addressing the Nigerian Super Eagles’ prolonged delay at Al Abraq International Airport.

The LFF attributed the situation to routine air traffic and logistical challenges, rejecting claims of deliberate foul play or sabotage.

“We firmly reject any claims that suggest foul play or sabotage in this situation,” the LFF stated.

The federation highlighted similar challenges faced by their own national team upon arriving in Nigeria for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The diversion of the Nigerian delegation’s chartered ValueJet aircraft to Al Abraq International Airport, rather than Benghazi, was due to standard air traffic control protocols and security checks.

The LFF emphasized respect for Nigeria and no intention of creating difficulties for the Super Eagles.

They noted that logistical issues are not uncommon and reiterated Libya’s commitment to hospitality towards visiting teams.

The federation urged for a resolution through mutual understanding, promoting unity and sportsmanship in football.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has filed a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football and is arranging the Super Eagles’ return home.
