A devastating explosion occurred on Thursday morning at a NIPCO filling station in Benin City, Edo State, after a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicle burst into flames.

The blast sent shockwaves through the area, causing widespread panic as people fled for their lives.

Viral footage showed the vehicle severely damaged, with debris scattered everywhere. Witnesses reported hearing a loud sound, which sparked chaos in the vicinity.

Three individuals sustained various degrees of injuries in the incident and were rushed to a nearby private hospital for medical attention.

This tragic incident raises concerns about the safety of CNG-powered vehicles, particularly since the Federal Government has been promoting their use as a cost-effective alternative to petrol-powered vehicles following the removal of fuel subsidies.

The explosion highlights the need for increased safety measures and regulations to prevent such tragedies, ensuring the safe and efficient use of CNG-powered vehicles in Nigeria.
