Renowned scholar Professor Iliyasu Usman, an Igbo man, has made history with his appointment as Imam of the Abuja National Mosque. He delivered his first sermon during Friday’s Jumm’at prayer.
The South East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON) congratulated Professor Usman, praising the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for their inclusive decision.
SEMON noted Professor Usman’s commitment to Islamic scholarship and leadership, expressing optimism that his appointment will:
strengthen the Igbo Muslim community
promote unity among Nigerian Muslims
