The Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued a warning to roadside beggars in Abuja, urging them to vacate the streets by October 27, 2024, or face arrest.

Minister Nyesom Wike made the announcement at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of access roads to the newly built judges’ quarters in Katampe. He cited security concerns due to the alarming number of beggars.

At the event, Wike also mentioned revoking Julius Berger’s Certificate of Occupancy in Abuja’s Katampe District.

Dignitaries attending the ceremony included Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.

The Federal Executive Council approved the construction of 40 judges’ quarters, with 70% of funds already released. The units will be allocated as follows:

The FCT High Court will receive 20 units.

The Federal High Court will receive 10 units.

The Court of Appeal will receive 10 units.

This initiative aims to enhance security and infrastructure in Abuja.
