The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed rumors that old N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes will cease to be legal tender by December 31, 2024.

In a statement, CBN’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Sidi Hakama, reaffirmed the Supreme Court’s order of November 29, 2023, extending the use of old naira banknotes indefinitely.

The CBN assures the public that both old and new naira notes will coexist as legal tender, easing concerns about the notes’ expiration.

The old banknotes will remain valid alongside the redesigned versions, and the CBN’s directive to accept and issue all denominations to and from deposit money banks remains in force.
