Robert Lewandowski scored twice within three minutes as La Liga leaders Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in El Clasico, widening their lead over their rivals to six points.

Real Madrid had been aiming to extend their unbeaten league run to 43 games, which would have matched Barcelona’s record set between April 2017 and May 2018.

However, their hopes were dashed by a dominant second-half performance from Barcelona.

After a scoreless first half, Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 54th minute, finishing a precise pass from Marc Casado.

Moments later, the Polish striker added his second, heading in Alejandro Balde’s cross into the right corner.

Lewandowski nearly completed a hat-trick, striking the woodwork with one attempt and missing narrowly on another.

Seventeen-year-old Lamine Yamal then scored Barcelona’s third, driving a shot into the top corner to become the youngest scorer in El Clasico history.

Raphinha added a fourth late in the game, marking his first goal against Real Madrid.

Kylian Mbappe, making his El Clasico debut, had two goals disallowed for offside and was also denied by Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena, as his first experience of the iconic fixture ended in defeat.
