The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a comprehensive operation to address street begging, scavenging, and vending in Abuja.

Following a ministerial directive, a joint task force arrested 34 individuals across the city on Monday.

The operation targeted four major areas: the city centre, airport road, Kubwa-Gwarinpa axis, and Asokoro-Nyanya-Karu corridor.

FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu described the clampdown as a “national assignment,” emphasizing professionalism and resolve. The operation will run day and night for two weeks.

Those detained will be taken to the FCTA’s rehabilitation centre in Kuchikon for profiling and assessment.

Willing individuals will receive vocational training, while unwilling ones will be returned to their states of origin.

The FCTA aims to eliminate street nuisances, including unauthorized vendors and technicians occupying public spaces.
