The House of Representatives in Nigeria has strongly denounced the physical assault on ride-hailing driver Stephen Abuwatseya by one of its members, Alex Ikwechegh.

A viral video showed Ikwechegh confronting and threatening Abuwatseya, sparking widespread outrage.

House Spokesperson Akin Rotimi Jr. issued a statement, saying:

“The House takes these allegations seriously. As elected officials, we uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability.”

The House urged the public to allow the investigation to unfold and encouraged further engagement.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police authorities have taken Ikwechegh into custody for questioning at the Maitama Police Station.

The incident has prompted a strong response from the House, reaffirming its commitment to:

1. Accountability

2. Transparency

3. Ethical behavior

The House promises to provide updates as more information becomes available.
