Honorable Alex Ikwechegh, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has issued a public apology for his recent altercation with ride-hailing driver Stephen Abuwatseya.

In his statement, Ikwechegh expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging they were unacceptable and caused harm to Abuwatseya, his family, and the public.

Official Apology Statement:

“I wish to address the unfortunate incident involving Citizen Stephen Abuwatseya, an e-hailing cab driver. What began as a misunderstanding escalated into actions and remarks I deeply regret, which do not reflect my values and character.

I sincerely apologize for my words and actions, recognizing the distress and frustration caused. As a public servant, I understand the weight of my role and remain accountable for my actions.

Citizen Abuwatseya and I have resolved the issue through alternative dispute resolution methods.

I also apologize to the Inspector General of Police, the leadership and members of the House of Representatives, and the National Assembly for any damage caused.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of restraint and self-control. I commit to learning from this experience and growing into a better citizen and representative.”

Ikwechegh’s apology reaffirms his commitment to serving the public with integrity.
