Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has made a commitment to restore electricity to Northern Nigeria within the next three days.

This pledge comes after a widespread power outage affected several regions, including the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central Nigeria.

The outage was caused by vandalism of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, which was confirmed by Nafisatu Ali, Executive Director of the Independent System Operator.

To ensure the safety of repair workers, President Bola Tinubu has deployed military personnel to the affected areas.

In the interim, Minister Adelabu has outlined a temporary solution to supply power to approximately 80% of the affected states. This will be achieved through the utilization of the Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line.

Collaboration with security agencies is ongoing to access and repair the damaged lines. Minister Adelabu expects the temporary power supply to be restored within three days, with full restoration completed within 14 days.

“We are working closely with security agencies to reclaim the grid from vandals,” Adelabu assured. “Repairs will be completed within 14 days, fully restoring power to the North.”
