The Edo State Police Command has taken a 16-year-old girl, Aisha Suleiman, into custody for allegedly poisoning her ex-boyfriend, Emmanuel, along with four other young men in the Afashio community of Etsako West Local Government Area.
The incident was uncovered on October 26, 2024, when Emmanuel’s father, Mr. Elogie Ezekiel, visited his son’s apartment around 6:30 a.m. He found multiple lifeless bodies inside. He first discovered Nurudeen’s body in the corridor, and upon entering the bedroom, he found 19-year-old Emmanuel and his 16-year-old girlfriend, Ada Samuel, dead on the bed. Two additional friends of Emmanuel, siblings Samuel and Jeffrey Ayegwalo, were also found unresponsive in the living room.
All five individuals were taken to the hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. Reports suggest the group had just eaten a pot of pepper soup prepared by Suleiman.
Three days later, the investigation shifted when police received information that Suleiman was in danger of being attacked by a group of local youths. Officers from the Jattu Division quickly intervened and brought her safely to the police station.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police CP Umoru Ozigi has ordered a comprehensive inquiry, directing officers to pursue all leads regarding the cause of death. He also urged the community to refrain from mob violence and allow the police to conduct their work, assuring the public that justice would be sought diligently.
