On Wednesday, 39 children from Kaduna State, who had been previously detained by the Federal Government, were joyfully reunited with their families. The emotional reunion took place in a brief ceremony at the “Children’s Homes” along Katuru Road in Kaduna, where each child received N100,000 and an Itel A18s smartphone from the state government.

Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, spoke on behalf of the governor during the event. He shared that the governor had instructed him to collect the credentials of those children who had completed their tertiary education. “The Governor has promised that some will receive start-up capital for small businesses, others will be offered skills training, and some will be provided with employment opportunities,” Meyere said.

The government plans to monitor the conduct of the children, offering these benefits based on their good behavior. As part of the process, the government recorded the children’s contact details, including addresses, phone numbers, and next-of-kin information, for easy follow-up.

Upon their release, the children underwent medical examinations and received psycho-social counseling aimed at personal development and fostering a sense of community responsibility. Religious leaders from both the Islamic and Christian faiths also provided guidance, emphasizing the importance of faith and the potential dangers of negative influences.

Meyere clarified that the phones were provided to the children because they had lost theirs during their detention. Additionally, the N100,000 was given as a goodwill gesture from the governor to help the children in their reintegration process.
