The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed all officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to wear black armbands for seven days in tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

This directive, disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, was issued on Thursday.

The statement reads, “Following the passing of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has instructed officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to wear black armbands for the duration of the seven-day mourning period.”

The order is intended as a mark of respect for Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, who demonstrated exceptional courage, commitment, and passion in combating violent crime and insurgency across Nigeria. “He was a great leader who deserves to be honored in every possible way,” the statement added.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, who had been unwell, passed away in Lagos on Tuesday, leaving Nigerians in mourning over his death.
