The All Progressives Congress (APC) achieved a sweeping victory in the Ogun State Local Government elections held on Saturday, winning all 20 chairmanship positions.

Reports indicate that a total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship elections across the state’s 20 local government areas. Additionally, the APC secured all 236 councillorship seats.

The results were announced by Babatunde Osibodu, Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

However, the Labour Party (LP) chairman in Ogun State, Biodun Jagun, rejected the results, describing the election as a sham. He called for its cancellation and vowed to challenge the outcome in court.

“There was no election whatsoever in virtually all the polling units in Ogun State. OGSIEC officials were nowhere to be seen in over ninety percent of the polling units, and there were no election materials at the polling units as of 1:30 pm. In the few polling units where election materials were delivered, they were incomplete and arrived around 1:00 pm, instead of the scheduled 8:00 am start,” Jagun said.

“We completely reject any results declared from this sham election. Even the good people of Ogun State have been voicing their concerns on radio and television, affirming that there was no election in the state.

“We urge OGSIEC to cancel the entire election for gross violations of the Ogun State Electoral Law guidelines. If this is not done, we will reject the announced results and take legal action to challenge this charade,” he added.
