Following the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s decisive win in the Ondo State governorship election, the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has unveiled plans to secure dominance across all Southwestern states.
Ganduje expressed confidence in APC’s ability to achieve “political homogeneity” in the region, citing its strength and strategic focus. “Our next target is the Southwest geopolitical zone. We will do what is necessary to bring Osun and Oyo states into the fold,” he stated.
The APC secured victory in Ondo with 366,781 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which garnered 117,845 votes. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the incumbent governor and former deputy, retained his seat after succeeding the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023.
With this win, APC now governs Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo states, while the PDP controls Osun and Oyo. The party’s leadership is determined to consolidate its influence throughout the region.
