The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an investigation into the alleged assault of a Nigerian citizen following an altercation involving an officer and two soldiers, as depicted in a viral video.
This was disclosed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement released on Tuesday.
He stated:
“The attention of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media, which appears to show a senior Army officer and two soldiers engaged in an altercation with a man and a woman within the Abuja metropolis.
“The exact circumstances leading to this incident are currently unclear.
“However, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered an immediate investigation to uncover the facts surrounding this incident.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to serving and protecting all law-abiding Nigerians, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We, therefore, assure the public that a thorough and fair investigation will be conducted to bring this matter to a logical conclusion.”
