Davido Cautions African Americans Against Relocating to Africa Amid Economic Challenges

Pop star Davido has advised African Americans to reconsider relocating to Africa, citing current economic challenges on the continent. Speaking on the Big Homies House podcast, the Nigerian singer noted that while Africa holds immense charm and cultural appeal, its economic realities make it a less ideal destination for now.

Using Nigeria as an example, Davido highlighted the country’s economic struggles, stating, “It’s not cool back home. The economy now is in shambles.” He criticized the high cost of domestically produced oil, a paradox for an oil-producing nation, and expressed frustration with the country’s leadership. “We Nigerians, the exchange rate is messed up, the oil prices are too high. Imagine a country producing oil, and we are paying more for it than countries importing it. We do not have the best leaders, and that is a fact,” he said.

Davido also acknowledged Africa’s rising global recognition, particularly in entertainment, but warned against being misled by appearances. “My aim is to show off the little parts and leave the slums out of the frame,” he added, emphasizing the need to balance optimism with realism.

The singer’s comments come as he celebrates voting for the first time in the U.S. elections, marking a personal milestone.
