Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, just two months after his previous release.
According to DAILY POST, the singer was first arrested on October 4 after releasing a controversial video allegedly mocking fellow artist Burna Boy’s association with American rapper Diddy, who has faced legal issues with the FBI over charges of sexual exploitation. Speed Darlington was released on bail on October 9 after spending five days in detention.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed his latest arrest on Wednesday through a post on his official Facebook page. Adeyanju wrote, “Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”
Attempts by DAILY POST to reach the Nigeria Police Force for clarification were unsuccessful, as the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to calls.
