The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) chapter in Bauchi State, has declared an indefinite strike to demand better conditions of service from the university administration.

Speaking to journalists after an emergency congress held at the Yuli, Bauchi campus of the university, the SAZU branch chairman, Comrade Awwal Hussain Nuhu, revealed that all efforts to engage the university administration and government had been exhausted without any positive outcome.

“The congress noted the administration and government’s lack of readiness and commitment to addressing our demands despite numerous attempts,” Nuhu stated.

He further explained that during the congress, a member proposed a motion for a comprehensive and indefinite strike, which was seconded and unanimously adopted by the members.

“Consequently, the congress resolved to embark on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike effective immediately from 12:00 pm on Friday, November 29, 2024. All members of ASUU at SAZU are directed to fully comply, and no academic activities, meetings, or related engagements will take place during the strike,” he added.

The chairman emphasized that the strike entails a complete suspension of activities such as teaching, grading, meetings, accreditation, and all other academic staff-related duties, until further notice.
