In a dramatic turn of events, South Korean lawmakers have defied President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law, voting unanimously to reject the measure. The move comes after Yoon’s surprise announcement on Tuesday, which sparked widespread protests and condemnation from opposition leaders.

The president’s decision to impose martial law was seen as an attempt to consolidate power and silence his political opponents. However, the move backfired, with even the leader of Yoon’s own party, Han Dong-hoon, speaking out against the declaration.

As news of the martial law declaration spread, protesters gathered outside the National Assembly, and lawmakers quickly convened to vote on a resolution to overturn the measure. The resolution passed with 190 votes in favor, with all present lawmakers supporting the move.

The reversal of the martial law declaration is a significant blow to Yoon’s presidency, which has been marred by controversy and scandal.
