A viral video on social media has shown local government chairmen in Ogun state prostrating and bowing in an apology to the state governor Dapo Abiodun.

The council chairmen in a visit to the Governor at the Ogun state government house, tendered an apology over the allegations made by the Chairman of Ijebu East Local government Wale Adedayo. Mr. Adedayo had alleged that the governor diverted statutory Federal Allocation due to the state’s Local Governments in the last two years.

He also accused the state government of hijacking the revenue sources meant for the local councils, and also of withholding SURE-P funds meant for the local government since 2020.

However, the local council chairmen led by the chair of Ijebu-Ode council, Tunde Gazal appealed for forgiveness and were seen prostrating and begging the governor.

Responding to the Chairmen, Governor Abiodun said, “God knows that this job I am doing it with every iota of sincerity of purpose in me. I will continue to ensure that I am guided by all the promises that I made in the course of my journey to the Governor’s office.”

Meanwhile, the allegations has generated heated controversy in the state with many calling for an investigation into the matter to find out if indeed the governor diverted local government allocation funds.
