In a circular dated December 5, 2024, with reference number DHS/INSPDIV/017/VOL.1/46, Dr. O. N. Anuma, Head of the Teaching Hospital Division for the Permanent Secretary, called for immediate vigilance. Titled Letter of Conveyance in Respect of the Newly Detected XEC COVID-19 Strain, the document highlighted the rapid spread of the variant, first reported in Australia, and urged proactive measures to mitigate its impact.

Hospitals have been instructed to promptly identify and manage patients showing COVID-like symptoms.
