The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ebonyi State has announced the suspension of its one-week warning strike, which began on December 2, 2024.

In a statement released on Monday, the Union leadership explained that the decision followed a review meeting held by the State Executive Committee.

The suspension, addressed to all affiliate unions of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), emphasized the State government’s strong commitment to negotiations. The government has actively engaged the Union in extensive meetings since December 7, 2024.

According to the statement, the State government has expressed readiness to sign an agreement with the NLC, backed by verifiable facts. It also noted that the Governor made a passionate appeal for the payment table used in October and November 2024 salaries to be accepted temporarily, pending a review based on the State’s financial improvement.

The Governor further assured his continued commitment to improving the welfare of Ebonyi workers.

Following the review meeting held on December 9, 2024, the Union unanimously resolved to suspend the strike. Workers have been directed to resume duties while negotiations for improved welfare, in line with the new minimum wage act, continue.

The Union also thanked workers for their commitment and solidarity during the strike period.
