The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that all five passengers onboard a cargo aircraft that skidded off the runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, were safely evacuated without injuries.

In a statement on Wednesday, Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, disclosed that the incident occurred at 10:05 a.m. when an Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT veered off Runway 22 after a landing gear failure.

“The five persons onboard were safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for further evaluation,” Orah said. She added that the airport’s emergency response team and accident investigators are on the scene. Efforts are underway to clear the runway, which has since reopened for flight operations.

FAAN expressed gratitude to the aviation community and the public for their patience during the incident and urged against speculation, emphasizing that the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) will release a preliminary report.

An update shared on FAAN’s X account confirmed that normal operations at the airport have resumed.
