The newly released movie Everybody Loves Jenifa by Funke Akindele has set a new Nollywood box office record, becoming the highest-grossing opening-day film in the industry’s history.
According to a post by the Nigerian Box Office on X, the film, which debuted in cinemas last Friday, earned ₦45.2 million on its opening day with 9,409 admissions.
This achievement surpasses the previous record held by A Tribe Called Judah, another blockbuster produced by Akindele in 2023. A Tribe Called Judah grossed over ₦1 billion in the Nigerian box office last year.
“Everybody Loves Jenifa shattered box office records yesterday with the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film at ₦45.2M!” the Nigerian Box Office announced.
“ELJ drew 9,409 admissions, surpassing ATCJ’s 8,870 despite not screening at Genesis Cinemas and missing most of the day at Silverbird Cinemas. These figures do not include advanced screenings. Final numbers may vary slightly.”
