Tiwa Savage recently opened up about the criticism she faces regarding her fashion choices, particularly the backlash tied to her age.
In a candid appearance on a podcast, the 44-year-old Afrobeats star expressed frustration over the constant judgment she receives for wearing revealing outfits, with some suggesting she should dress more modestly because of her age. She pointed out the double standard, noting that other female celebrities in their 40s, like Beyoncé, are often praised for their beauty and style, regardless of their age.
Savage emphasized that she believes fashion should not be dictated by age, encouraging individuals to express themselves freely through their clothing choices. Confident in her own beauty and style, Tiwa proudly declared herself a powerful and beautiful woman.
She said, “They age-shame me every single day. They say, ‘At your age, how can you wear a bikini?’ I can because I have a body. Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis, but Americans don’t age-shame her. They celebrate her, saying ‘Black don’t crack.’ It’s more celebrated when you look good as you get older.”
She added, “But in Nigeria, they always throw these comments, like, ‘When your son grows up, he’s going to see this.’ My son will be proud, he’ll say, ‘My mum is a powerful and beautiful woman.’”
