Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the arrest of the organizers of a children’s carnival where a stampede resulted in the deaths of several children.

The tragic incident occurred in the Bashorun area of Ibadan, as reported by Naija News. The carnival was scheduled for Wednesday, but some parents brought their children as early as Tuesday, with others arriving early Wednesday.

The rush to enter the venue caused a stampede, leading to fears of multiple fatalities among children.

In a statement on Wednesday, Governor Makinde announced that the state government had taken immediate action to prevent further casualties. Security agents were deployed to the site to restore order, while medical personnel and ambulances were dispatched to attend to victims.

“The event has been stopped, and attendees have been escorted out of the venue,” Makinde said. He added that the organizers of the event have been arrested, and investigations into the incident are underway.
