Wrestling Legend Rey Misterio Sr. Dies at 66

Rey Misterio Sr., a prominent figure in Mexican wrestling and the uncle of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, has passed away at the age of 66. His death was confirmed by his son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio, on December 20, 2024.

The cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.

Misterio, born Miguel Ángel López Díaz, began his wrestling career in 1976 and was known for his contributions to the sport, both as a wrestler and a trainer. He retired in 2009 after an illustrious career.

Misterio’s passing comes shortly after the death of his brother, Roberto Gutierrez, deepening the family’s grief. The wrestling community has mourned the loss, remembering Rey Misterio Sr. for his impact on the industry.
