In an emotionally charged video that has stirred heartfelt reactions nationwide, human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi broke down in tears as he reflected on his recent ordeal and the unwavering support he received from Nigerians across the country.

Farotimi, who faced a defamation lawsuit filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, and endured days of detention, expressed profound gratitude to Nigerians for their collective voice that ultimately led to his release.

Fighting back tears, he said, “We stop being humans because we became Nigerians. Nigerians overlooked my ethnicity, my religion, and spoke for me.” His words highlighted the power of unity among Nigerians, regardless of the divisions that often plague the country.

Reflecting on his experience, Farotimi emphasized how the solidarity of the people shielded him from the harsh realities many face in Nigeria’s justice system. “Nigeria couldn’t happen to me because people spoke for me,” he said, underscoring the difference collective action made in his case.

Farotimi’s arrest and subsequent release have reignited discussions about the role of unity in combating systemic injustice and promoting accountability in the country. His emotional video serves as a poignant reminder of what Nigerians can achieve when they stand together, setting aside ethnic and religious differences.
