Nathaniel Bassey Clarifies He Was Not Invited to Perform at Trump’s Inauguration

Popular Nigerian Pastor and Singer Nathaniel Bassey has clarified that he was not invited to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, set for January 20.

Rumors had spread on online platforms and in traditional media claiming that Bassey would join other international Christian singers at the event. However, the Akwa Ibom Cleric explained that he had not been invited to perform at the inauguration. He clarified that the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, which takes place before the inauguration, is a non-official and non-governmental event.

Bassey explained that the prayer breakfast, which occurs every four years before a new US president’s inauguration, is a faith-based gathering meant for intercessory prayers and worship on behalf of the president and the government, rather than a part of the official inauguration ceremony.

“The Presidential Prayer Breakfast is a non-official and non-governmental event. It is a Faith-Based platform where intercessory prayers and worship are offered to God on behalf of the office of the president and the government of the nation,” Bassey said.

He emphasized that the event, attended by leaders and dignitaries from around the world, is held prior to each new administration and should not be confused with the inauguration itself.
