Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who disclosed that the Oyomesi, the kingmakers of Oyo, recommended Owoade after thorough consultations and traditional divinations.

According to Oyelade, Governor Makinde endorsed the selection after due consideration of the Oyomesi’s recommendation.

The appointment comes more than a year after the demise of the former Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away on April 22, 2022.

The government urged the people of Oyo to support the new Alaafin as he begins his reign and to work collectively towards peace, unity, and development in the kingdom.
