UNILAG Produces 18 All-Female First-Class Graduates In Mass Communication

The Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has set a remarkable record by producing 18 all-female first-class graduates for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The achievement was announced during the 55th Convocation Ceremony, a three-day event where a total of 16,590 students received degrees and diplomas. Out of these, 9,865 students earned first degrees and diplomas, while 6,659 were awarded postgraduate degrees. Additionally, 66 students graduated from the UNILAG Business School (ULBS).

The 18 exceptional first-class graduates are Feranmi Abiola, Ahuruele Akani, Oyindamola Arikawe, Ifedayo Ayilaran, Demiladeogo Bankole, Olaide Bankole, Eniola Daramola, Faith Enang, Temiloluwa Igbinlade, Joy Imanah, Ifeoma Iwelunmor, Chelsea Jegede, Opeyemi Kareem, Eunice Obidi, Frances Odogu, Mofesola Olanrewaju, Funmilola Onabanjo, and Peace Onuoha.

The university commended the graduates for their dedication, resilience, and outstanding academic performance.

Several of the graduates shared their inspiring journeys. Peace Onuoha revealed she initially wanted to study law but pushed herself to excel in Mass Communication while managing internships and jobs. Temiloluwa Igbinlade discussed overcoming challenges during her transition from secondary school to university, crediting her success to faith and determination. Eunice Obidi attributed her achievement to discipline, effective time management, and prioritizing academics.

Other highlights from the convocation included Christian Uwagwu, the best-graduating student from the Faculty of Education with a CGPA of 4.78, and Ibrahim Sefiu, the best-graduating student from the Faculty of Social Sciences with a CGPA of 4.82.

UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, lauded the university’s advancements in infrastructure, innovation, and academic excellence. She highlighted the establishment of the MED-AFRICA GMP Laboratory, the first of its kind in West Africa, facilitating advanced HIV prevention research within the Faculty of Pharmacy.
