The Federal Government has announced that over 5,000 former members of the Boko Haram sect have been reunited with their families after completing a six-month deradicalization program.
The National Counter Terrorism Centre, under the Office of the National Security Advisor, disclosed this, stating that the ex-combatants underwent rehabilitation and reintegration through the Operation Safe Corridor initiative.
Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, Head of Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), highlighted that the program has successfully reintegrated thousands of former insurgents into society.
âThrough Operation Safe Corridor, we have deradicalized and reintegrated over 5,000 former Boko Haram combatants, equipping them with skills to sustain themselves within their communities,â she said.
She further noted that the National Orientation Agency (NOA), alongside traditional and religious leaders, is actively monitoring the reintegration process across Nigeriaâs 774 local government areas to track their progress.
