Tshego Gaelae Wins 40th Mrs World Pageant, Making History as First Black Mrs World

Tshego Gaelae of South Africa has been crowned the winner of the 40th Mrs World pageant in Las Vegas, USA. Sri Lanka’s Ishadi Amanda claimed first runner-up, while Thailand’s Ploy Panperm took second runner-up.

Expressing her gratitude on Instagram, Gaelae wrote, “To God Be The Glory. Thank you so much for the love and support, I am beyond grateful and elated! My beautiful South Africa, the crown is coming Home.”

Mrs South Africa also celebrated the achievement, posting, “From Soweto to Vegas and now the World, The Crown is Coming Home! Thank you to everyone who supported our Queen on her incredible journey.”

This historic win marks Gaelae as the first Black Mrs World, a significant milestone in the competition’s 40-year history.

Gaelae’s victory comes amid growing beauty pageant rivalry between South Africa and Nigeria. In November 2024, Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, made history as the first Nigerian and West African to place first runner-up at the Miss Universe competition in Mexico City.
