Scottish-Nigerian Actress Carolyna Hutchings Reveals She Was Racially Abused In Nigeria

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Scottish-Nigerian actress Carolyna Hutchings shared her experience of racial abuse during her childhood in Nigeria as a mixed-race individual.

Hutchings recalled facing bullying and racial discrimination throughout her primary and secondary education, mainly due to her skin color and hair texture. She explained, “As a mixed-race person living in Nigeria and raised by my grandmother, I faced a lot of racism. My skin color and hair texture were major issues for me. I was bullied all through primary and secondary school, so I had to learn to defend myself.”

The actress also revealed that racism continued in her professional life.

Despite holding an MBA, MSA in international law, numerous professional certificates from institutions like Lagos Business School and Unilag, and even a doctorate, Hutchings noted, “When you speak and you’re a beautiful mixed-race woman, you tend to get bashed. I faced that in this society. I also dealt with the stigma of being a divorcee. Over time, I built a thick skin for myself.”
