Orji Uzor Kalu Appointed Pioneer Chairman of Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission

The Senate has appointed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North) as the pioneer chairman of the newly established Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC).

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. SEDC is one of the regional development commissions recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.

Before this appointment, Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation. Senator Ken Eze (Ebonyi Central) was named vice chairman of the committee, while other members will be announced later.

As chairman, Kalu will oversee the commission’s efforts in addressing civil restitution, erosion control, security restoration, and infrastructure development in the South-East.

Additionally, an 18-member leadership team for SEDC has been confirmed, with Dr. Emeka Nworgu as chairman and Hon. Mark Okoye as managing director and CEO.

Other members include Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Izenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Chidi Echeazu, Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, Hamma Adama Ali, Kumo Edward David Onoja, and Orure Kufre Inima.

  • Dr. Clifford Ogbede (E.D. Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Rural Development).
