South African singer Tyla has made history as her hit single “Water” surpasses 1 billion streams on Spotify, making her the first African artist to achieve this milestone with a solo song.

This achievement cements Tyla’s status as one of Africa’s fastest-rising stars, following the global success of “Water,” which became a viral sensation with its unique blend of Amapiano and R&B.

Her record-breaking feat comes shortly after Tems became the first female African artist to have a song reach 1 billion Spotify streams with “Wait For U”, her collaboration with Future and Drake.

Tyla’s success highlights the growing influence of African artists on the global music stage, as Afrobeats, Amapiano, and other African sounds continue to dominate international charts.
